Event Description: In recognition of American Archives Month, the Maryland State Archives is hosting a free Family History Festival on in Annapolis. This open house-style event will feature workshops on genealogy and family history by professional archivists; moderated panel discussions on archival research by genealogists and historians; hands-on demonstrations on caring for family papers and photos; behind the scenes tours and themed exhibits; and presentations of award-winning National History Day projects by local youth. The day's keynote address will be provided by Mr. Chris Haley, nephew of Roots' author Alex Haley and Director of the Study of the Legacy of Slavery in Maryland. Mr. Haley will speak about the importance of Exploring Our Roots and The Strength in Our Diversity. We invite the everyone to come meet our staff and see how important archives are to both family and community history!
