Brown Bag Lunch and Learn at the Maryland State Archives
Start Date: 10/21/2015Start Time: 12:00 PM
End Date: 10/21/2015End Time: 1:00 PM
Event Description:
The Maryland State Archives is hosting a series of public programming called Brown Bag Lunch and Learn. Once a month, the Archives will hold an informal, free talk in their conference room open to the general public where Archives' staff members will share different aspects of their jobs and ongoing projects.

Our October talk will be given by staff of the Legacy of Slavery in Maryland Program and is titled
Certificates of Freedom and Manumission Records in the Collections of the Maryland State Archives This talk will be an overview of a grant project funded project to provide a detailed, searchable name index to all the manumission and certificate of freedom documents in the Archives' collection.  These historic records are a primary means of documenting and identifying enslaved and free African Americans in Maryland prior to 1865.  Funding for this project is provided by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission through a Documenting Democracy grant.  The staff will share findings and discuss insights that they have gleaned by working with these collections in great detail over the past few months.  The talk will be held on Wednesday, October 21st at noon.
Feel free to bring both your lunch and any questions you may have! Please email or call Emily Oland Squires to RSVP to this event at emily.squires@maryland.gov or 410-260-6443. Please note: a valid photo ID is required to enter the Archives building.
