10:00 AM - 11:30 AM Employee Manuals
Despite what you may have heard, an Employee Manual is almost universally interpreted as a contract usually against the employer, so your manual should be properly drafted to reflect your company culture, but also to clearly spell out how the relationship between your company and your employers will operate. Also, although Maryland is an at-will employment state, it does not mean that employer-employee contracts don’t exist. We will cover the common types and how to handle employee contracts.

10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Deed Recording Task Force
The Task Force to Study Recording Deeds for Victims of Domestic Violence will hold its fifth meeting on Tuesday, August 29, at 10 am at the Office of the Secretary of State, 16 Francis Street, Annapolis, MD 21401. Chaired by Secretary of State John C. Wobensmith, the workgroup is charged with recommending a process that allows participants in the Maryland Safe at Home Address Confidentiality Program (ACP) to purchase property without their information becoming part of public record. The Safe at Home Program, administered by the office of the Secretary of State, provides a legal substitute address and cost-free mailforwarding service to victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, sexual assault or stalking in order to keep their location hidden from offenders seeking to find them. The program has special procedures for victims when interacting with the Board of Elections, the Motor Vehicle Administration and public schools. When a deed is recorded from the transfer of real property to or from an ACP participant, however, it becomes public record, putting the victim at risk of being discovered by the abuser. This meeting is open to the public. Individuals familiar with the process of purchasing or selling real property are encouraged to attend to offer their opinions and expertise. Any questions regarding the Deed Recording Task Force meeting may be directed to Brittany Luzader, Address Confidentiality Program Specialist, Office of the Secretary of State, at 410.974.2679. Where: Office of the Secretary of State, Wineland Building, 16 Francis Street, Annapolis, Maryland 21401
