Event Description:
The Harry R. Hughes Center for Agro-Ecology will release the Roadmap at a press event at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. `15, at Lawyer's Mall in front of the Capitol Building in Annapolis. Speakers include Maryland Secretary of Agriculture Kevin Atticks, Secretary of the Environment Serena McIlwain, Deputy Secretary of Natural Resources David Goshorn, and University of Maryland College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dean Wendy Powers.
This Roadmap to Resilience is the culmination of three years of collaborative engagement with partners and staff from the Maryland Departments of Agriculture, Natural Resources, and the Environment, as well as farmers and representatives from the agricultural, academic, nonprofit, and policy communities. As a team, we built this report to address the needs of Maryland’s farmers as they continue to remain economically viable and environmentally sustainable in the face of climate change. It prioritizes farmers' needs by combining a large-scale outreach effort with scientific analysis of the current and future impacts of climate change on agriculture. The result is an action plan of 13 recommendations on how Maryland's agricultural, legislative, policy, academic, nonprofit, and other partner communities can advance resilience in the face of future changes. |
