Local Food Waste Prevention Campaigns: a Potent Source of Economic and Climate Benefits - virtual
Start Date: 4/10/2025Start Time: 12:00 PM
End Date: 4/10/2025End Time: 1:00 PM
Event Description:
The food waste reduction action with the greatest potential for GHG reduction and net financial benefits is the source reduction strategy of consumer behavior change campaigns for households (which generate the largest share of food waste, over ~40%). In general, prevention strategies are much more powerful than recycling strategies because they avoid GHG emissions and costs all along the food supply chain. The speakers will share their experiences with behavior change campaigns for households as well as commercial, industrial, and food recovery organizations at the local level: Wasted Food Stops with Us in Hamilton County OH, and Food Matters: Solutions for Food Waste Prevention in the City and County of Denver.
