Join Potomac Conservancy and Friends of Sligo Creek for a safe, fun, 50 person trash cleanup at Green Meadows Park (MD). Make a huge difference for the Potomac River as we turn to the water for a safe, healthy place to recreate outdoors.

Billions of Baby Oysters—A Virtual Hatchery Tour presented by Stephanie Alexander, Oyster Hatchery Manager

Horn Point Laboratory’s oyster hatchery has produced billions of baby oysters, both to restore populations in the Bay and for the oyster farming industry. What does it take to raise healthy baby oysters? Hatchery Director Stephanie Alexander, who brings 20+ years of experience in the field, will lead attendees on a virtual tour of the famous hatchery.

As partners across the Chesapeake Bay watershed work to strengthen and accelerate progress made towards restoration goals, understanding and addressing emerging contaminants will play an increasingly important role in these efforts. Join Morgan State University and the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay for a groundbreaking symposium highlighting cutting edge research, innovative solutions, and collaborative strategies to tackle these challenges.

This event is free, but registration is required.

Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC) is looking for volunteers, age 18+, to join their Adopt-a-Stream Program. It’s easy to adopt a stream! Stream Adoption simply requires you to:

• Attend GVC's training
• Agree to clean your adopted stream segment
• Send GVC your trash collection data
• Watch for and report stream hazards

Adopt-a-Stream is great for individuals, families, neighborhoods, scout groups, congregations, or school groups. GVC can help you find an adoptable stream segment in the Gunpowder Watershed, or you may have one in mind.

This free event is designed for high school students (ages 14-18) who are passionate about the environment and eager to take action on climate issues.

Whether students are already involved in climate action or just getting started, this event will provide them with the tools, knowledge, and connections to drive meaningful change in their schools and communities.

Space is limited, so early registration is recommended!

Watersheds help protect the quality of our water leading to the protection of clean drinking water, productive fisheries, and outdoor recreation, that support our economies, environment and quality of life.  Take a dive (pun intended) into watershed ecology, habitats, health and more to gain a fuller understanding and appreciation of the importance of this critical habitat.

Katrina Fauss: Park Naturalist, Black Hill Discovery Center, M-NCPPC, Montgomery Parks

Katrina has over 20 years of experience in environmental and nature-based education. She currently spends a lot of energy and time in creating playful, nature-based programs such Mud Fest, Preschool in the Park, Nature Girls Club, and Wild Forest Time that give people opportunities to play in nature. Prior to working for Montgomery Parks, Katrina was Program Manager and Western Maryland Educator for the Bridging the Watershed Program, where she worked with National and State Parks delivering Potomac Watershed Field Studies. She has a BA from Hood College in Sociology and graduate work in Environmental Education. Katrina has a Nature-Based Educator Certification from the Association for Nature-Based Education. She is a passionate advocate for play and nature-based education.

Join residents of all ages at the annual spring cleanup in Bowie! We will have several sites open for cleaning, but first we will have a kickoff event in the back of the Free State Shopping Center on Annapolis Road (MD Rt 450). Volunteers will then head to their streams – we have three to choose from. Locations will be given to registered participants. We will provide gloves & bags. We will have water available so be sure to bring your reusable bottle. We ask volunteers to wear long sleeves & pants and boots or sturdy shoes that can get a bit wet.

Prince George’s County students will receive Service Learning Hours.

Get outside, volunteer for a stream cleanup & make a difference for your community.

This is the annual Project Clean Streams in Cape St Claire.  We will meet in the Cape Recreation Area parking lot across the street from Graul’s at 9 AM.

Bring rubber boots, since some areas may be wet.  We will provide garden gloves and trash bags.

The goal is to collect as much trash as we can, particularly near our streams.  You will be directed to a specific area, and shown where to bring full trash bags.

A trash clean-up day to tidy up Talbot’s parks, streets, and waterfronts, to turn our community into a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful place for everyone!

WHERE: Phillips Wharf Environmental Center inside Easton Point park, 672 W. Glenwood Avenue.

WHEN: Supply pickup: 9:00-10:00AM

               Trash drop off: 12:00-1:00PM

There will be free coffee and snacks for all participants!

Compost Workshop @ LRIA Memorial Community Garden Learn the basics of home composting, and receive a compost bin by registering for this in-person workshop 

DPW’s Spring GROW Center season will feature five pop-up events and six free workshops. Attend one of the upcoming activities and get some great resources to help with your greening projects. Free trees, mulch, seeds, and reusable shopping bags will be available, as well as information on stormwater fee credits, plant advice, recycling and composting, adopt-a-lot, and other ways to make your home and community greener, cleaner, and more resilient. ShoreRivers, statewide groups, and national agencies use this information to track trends, develop remediation strategies, advocate for stronger laws and enforcement, alert the public of potential health risks, and inform region-wide efforts toward clean water goals.

The address provided is to the Upper Bay Museum at the park. Look for our table near the beginning of the park to sign in, get supplies and assign areas.
