Maryland State Board of On-Site Wastewater Professionals Monthly Meeting
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM Flooding and Sea Level Rise Impacts to Wells and Septic Systems - virtual
Seems we are hearing more about floods in recent years due to extreme weather and the damage they cause to buildings and road infrastructure. What we don’t see often with flooding is the damage to underground systems such as wells or septic systems. In these situations, the damage can be to our health due to contamination. This webinar will discuss issues with increased flooding, the impacts to our home water and wastewater systems and strategies to reduce risks.
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM The Future of the Bay: Impacts of Changes to Federal Priorities on the Chesapeake Watershed - virtua

The new White House administration has initiated major changes in leadership, policy priorities, and federal budgets across multiple agencies. What are the implications of this on Chesapeake Bay restoration and other environmental initiatives?

Join us on Wednesday, March 19th from 12-1pm, to discuss impacts to regional environmental protection and restoration programs, and community investments across the Bay, as well as to hear the latest updates to advocacy efforts that are underway.

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM Transforming Landfill Operations with Emissions Data - webinar
Deep insights from high altitudes are transforming how landfill operators approach collecting data about methane emissions. The traditional method was simply walking the area with a handheld sensor to find and fix methane leaks — a time consuming, incomplete, and often unsafe process. But now with GHGSat’s high-resolution emissions data from highly targeted and accurate satellite and aerial observations can pinpoint the source of leaks, providing quick and efficient visibility so operators can act fast, reducing costs and increasing security measures.
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM Addressing Emerging Contaminants in Wastewater Treatment Systems - virtual
The efficacy of treatment systems in removing a range of emerging contaminants, such as microplastics, pharmaceuticals and personal care products, harmful algal blooms, 1-4-dioxane, and 6-PPD, from water is often unclear. States have expressed interest in understanding removal rates and viable treatment technologies to address public health concerns. This webinar will provide an overview of work by our Office of Research and Development to develop a framework of wastewater treatment processes, focusing on removal rates of certain emerging contaminants, as well as associated life cycle costs and environmental impacts. This work will give states and communities more resources to understand how to treat contaminants in their water systems, helping ensure clean water for all Americans.
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM Baltimore City Commission on Sustainability Monthly Meeting

7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Know Your Water: Well Care, Testing and Groundwater Protection - webinar
Join Montgomery Countryside Alliance for a free webinar to learn about well care, testing and groundwater protection. Anrew Lazur, PhD, water quality specialist from the University of Maryland Extension will share insights on keeping your well in top shape and essential water tests needed for safe drinking water.
