The concept of a Library of Things (LoT) allows communities to borrow infrequently used items (such as tools, kitchen appliances, or camping gear) instead of buying them, reducing resource consumption and waste. Experts will discuss successful case studies, how businesses and municipalities can adopt these models, and practical steps for communities to implement shared resources and waste reduction strategies.
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Recycling and Litter Prevention in Parks - webinar
Parks and rec facilities are particularly difficult settings to manage recycling and litter prevention. While all programs experience challenges, some communities have demonstrated how systematic planning and creative strategies can deliver higher diversion and cleaner parks.

This webinar will feature two case study presentations, including a successful campaign to address chronic trash problems in an urban park, and a phased approach to design, implement and refine a recycling program across 300 park locations.

Katrina Fauss: Park Naturalist, Black Hill Discovery Center, M-NCPPC, Montgomery Parks

Katrina has over 20 years of experience in environmental and nature-based education. She currently spends a lot of energy and time in creating playful, nature-based programs such Mud Fest, Preschool in the Park, Nature Girls Club, and Wild Forest Time that give people opportunities to play in nature. Prior to working for Montgomery Parks, Katrina was Program Manager and Western Maryland Educator for the Bridging the Watershed Program, where she worked with National and State Parks delivering Potomac Watershed Field Studies. She has a BA from Hood College in Sociology and graduate work in Environmental Education. Katrina has a Nature-Based Educator Certification from the Association for Nature-Based Education. She is a passionate advocate for play and nature-based education.
