Each year, between April—October, ShoreRivers’ professional Riverkeepers conduct weekly tidal sampling of sites from Cecilton to Cambridge, then test for multiple scientific water quality parameters including dissolved oxygen, nutrient pollution, algae, and clarity. These indicators reveal the overall health of our waterways and our progress toward protecting and restoring our local rivers. ShoreRivers, statewide groups, and national agencies use this information to track trends, develop remediation strategies, advocate for stronger laws and enforcement, alert the public of potential health risks, and inform region-wide efforts toward clean water goals. | |

This is an outdoor event (indoor if rain) with fun activities for all- children and adults. Booths with different vendors will promote environmentally services (e.g. solar energy, recycling, etc.), hold demonstrations (such as composting), and give away prizes. The fair will include food and several speakers. This fair will underscore the consistent message of the Shabbaton and give participants practical ways to implement what they have learned in an affordable way, with access to resources. | |

Hard surfaces such as streets and rooftops increase runoff by preventing water from soaking into the ground. More than 40,000 trees have been planted throughout the Gunpowder Watershed by enthusiastic volunteers over the past 36 years, and we need YOUR help to plant even more!
A maximum of 40 people, including GVC staff and volunteer leaders, will be allowed to participate in this event. We are allowing minors (ages 8 – 17) to attend our events as long as there is one parent/legal guardian per four children in attendance. | |
