Event Description: IPMA-HR Patuxent River Basin Chapter presents Disabilities & Reasonable Accommodations in the Workplace: Awareness, Etiquette & the Law Presented by: Maryland Commission On Civil Rights Glendora Hughes, General Counsel and Tara Taylor, Director of Education & Outreach SYNOPSIS: The workshop includes an in-depth review of applicable disability-related laws and reasonable accommodations in the workplace. We will discuss relevant statistics, current trends as well as appropriate etiquette, language and behavior when interacting with persons with disabilities. This engaging workshop is packed full of helpful info and scenarios that provides ideal learning for employers, managers, supervisors, human resource and employee relations staff in the private, non-profit and public sectors. Workshop content includes: Applicable Laws & Definitions Reasonable Accommodations Info (discussion of requests, documentation, verification of documentation, what is and is not required by the employee and the employer, etc.) Exclusions Under Federal Law Elements of a Prima Facie Employment Discrimination Case & Possible Defenses for Employers Current Case Law & Common Workplace Scenarios Best Practices for Inclusive Workplaces, Appropriate Language and Information to Better Understand Common Mental & Physical Disabilities in the Workplace DATE: Thursday, May 26, 2016 PLACE: State of Maryland –Dept. of Agriculture 50 Harry S.
