The panel will assemble a distinguished group of experts, including:

Shiladitya DasSarma, PhD, is a pioneering microbiologist at the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology, University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. DasSarma's expertise lies in the genomics, molecular biology, and biotechnology of Archaea, a microorganism crucial to many environmental processes. His research delves into the potential impacts of climate change on these organisms and the implications for global health, including teaching an interdisciplinary course that examines the causes and impacts of climate change, emphasizing human health, society, and health equity, particularly in Baltimore and across Maryland.
Andrea Buchwald, PhD, is an infectious disease epidemiologist from the University of Maryland School of Medicine Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health. Dr. Buchwald's research interests center on how climate change influences the transmission of infectious diseases, maternal and child health, and the role of immunological data in informing public health interventions. Her experience will bring valuable insights into how Maryland can prepare for and address emerging health threats.
Christopher Beck, the Climate Change Deputy Program Manager from the Maryland Department of the Environment. Mr. Beck's two decades of experience in environmental management, both in the public and private sectors, will provide a critical perspective on current state environmental policies and programs related to climate change mitigation. His insights will be instrumental in understanding how Maryland can adapt to the changing environment and protect public health.
