Join Carolyn Sheaffer with Deep Creek Watershed Foundation for an introduction to the conservation landscaping program 10 in 10, which stands for the DNR’s goal of having 10% of the lakeshore buffer strip to be planted with native plants and trees in the next 10 years. The goal of this program is to prevent further erosion of the lakeshore by stabilizing soils through native plant roots, which is an economical and natural way to preserve and create a living shoreline.

Carbon is both the cause and the source of potential mitigation of our changing climate. Research on carbon cycling has implications for policy and the resilience of our communities. Blue carbon ecosystems—tidal marshes, mangroves, and seagrasses—and forests are key ecosystems that sequester carbon. Learn about blue and green carbon research and relevant policy implications from researchers at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center’s Biogeochemistry Lab and BiodiversiTREE project.
